Make + Store Copies of Important Documents
Times have drastically changed. We are encased in a digital world and our most critical, intimate information lives in the cloud. This information is accessible 24 hours a day, every day - until there is no way to access it.
A major or minor disaster can destroy access to phone service, passwords, medical records, phone numbers, email accounts - practically everything you need to communicate.
That’s why preppers are smart enough to know to keep hard copies, of all essential documents, stored securely and in several places.
Start with;
- identification
- passports
- drivers' licenses
- Social Security cards
- birth certificates.
- your medical records
- prescriptions names and ID numbers
- insurance policies
- property deeds
- banking information
- and emergency contact information
- For purely sentimental reasons, take some of those old, favorite photos
If you have bug-out bags lor other locations, include directions to each one and access codes. Store this information securely.
Store copies of these documents in several places
- waterproof sleeves or dry bags
- inside your bug-out bag
- in the trunk of your vehicle
- in a fireproof safe at home
Keep one with you and another with a trusted relative in a different location.
After the initial disorder of mandatory evacuation or a State or a Nationwide system failure, proving your identity, accessing health care, or reclaiming your property can be days or months' long bureaucratic nightmare - especially if you have no ID and no documents.
Paper still works, when Wi-Fi doesn’t.
Paper may be the old-fashioned way but, if certain things happen in our society, we could be thrust back into that way of life and you will be ready. .
When the grid goes down, these copies and files become your license to a more stable future. This proof of who you are is the master key to rebuilding your life - after the dust settles.
