Make a List of Your Survival Plans and Procedures

Write down your escape survival plans and make sure each family member has a secure copy

You could be driving home from a nice evening out and all of a sudden, you are in the middle of a nightmare. The children are at home and you have no way to reach them - what can you do.

The best thing to do, before anything happens, is to help keep everyone safe. Help make sure they are safe - have a plan in place, before a tragedy strikes.

Even after you make a list of and practice your safety plans with your family, the reality of a bad situation can make anyone forget what the whole plan is - even the most obvious steps.

That’s why it’s so important to write down your survival plans, procedures and safety checklists - not just memorize them

Create the plan, with a clear, step-by-step instructions for different emergency scenarios:

  • bugging out
  • sheltering in place
  • fire response
  • medical emergencies
  • and communication breakdowns

Include;

  • maps
  • supply inventories
  • evacuation routes
  • and who does what in a crisis

Store this information in a “prepper binder” or field manual, laminated and divided by tabs for quick access.

Make copies for each family member and rehearse the plan(s) them.

Keep your plans simple, effective and easy to remember and follow, under pressure. If you are injured and aren't able to read, someone else should be able to easily read your notes and take the lead.

Include short how-to guides about:

  • how to purify water
  • start a fire,
  • use a HAM radio
  • how to treat wounds.

What You Need on Your Emergency Survival Checklist

You can’t rely on your memory when fear, uncertainty and adrenaline are surging through your body and chaos is unfolding, in real time.

That's why a  written survival plan is more than just a backup - it’s the manual you can refer to when a strategic decision-making is critical.

When you put all of your plans on paper, you don’t just survive - you can remain calm and sure of yourself.
