Learn Basic Bushcraft Techniques. What is Bushcraft?

The core of all survival, in the wild, is bushcraft: the ability to live off the land using your knowledge, skills, and minimal or no, tools.

What is Bushcraft?

Bushcraft is living off the land by using your experience and skills you have learned. You should be alble to survive and also thrive in a primitive, natural environment.

Bushcraft skills include

  • plant identification and foraging
  • gathering supplies to build a stable shelter
  • hunting
  • fishing
  • building a fire
  • preparing meals
  • tying knots
  • locating water
  • navigating terrain

This is what separates someone who is dependent on having the necessary gear from someone who can adapt when the gear runs out.

Woodcraft is when your lifestyle is focused on survival.  These skills are needed when you are in the wild, in a wooded area or forest.

Fieldcraft is likened to a military or tactical form of survival.

Start simple - watch Naked + Afraid. A TV show about two, or more, people placed in the middle of nowhere, with next to nothing, for 21 days, or more.

You can practice;

  • building a fire with natural tinder
  • carving basic tools
  • constructing a lean-to shelter.

Learn to identify;

  • edible and medicinal plants
  • animal tracks
  • water indicators in your region

Bushcraft Survival Alone in the Wild

Take a weekend camping trip with only a knife, tarp and cooking pot to test your abilities. Bushcraft let you reconnect with the learned and natural skills that humans used for thousands of years.

Becoming an expert gives you what you need to survive anywhere, especially if you are not able to use any of the comforts of life, we have become accustomed to.

These skills are necessary and you will depend on them, especially in a long-term crisis.

When you are out in the wild and need to survive, your knowledge and skills make everything a lot easier. Bushcraft turns the wilderness into all the resources you need and that alone could save your life.
